Our Products

Including a visit to the home and workshop of M&J Aboriginality, as part of your itinerary while in tropical North Queensland, will be an event to cherish and remember for years to come.  Mat and Judy, and our two children, Keisha and Sani, will keep you entertained and charmed as we treat you to our unique brand of hospitality and introduce you to genuine Australian Aboriginal culture through our arts and crafts.

At M&J Aboriginality we have a large range of authentic and original hand-crafted Aboriginal artifacts, paintings and souvenirs.

Visitors are welcome to call for a visit and browse of our extensive range.  You are invited to spend the whole day, joining in with the family meal or enjoying a tropical rainforest swim in the cool, crystal-clear water of nearby Babinda Creek.

We also offer the opportunity for our visitors to paint or burn their very own didgeridoo or boomerang.  Instructions on how to play the didgeridoo are provided by our son, Sani, while boomerang throwing is demonstrated by Mat.

If getting a didgeridoo home sounds a bit overwhelming, especially for overseas visitors, we can arrange to have it delivered home to you anywhere in the world.

The Workshop:

Pictured at right is part of our workshop where we manufacture didgeridoos and other Aboriginal artefacts.

Some finished didgeridoos can be seen, displaying unique Australian Aboriginal artwork and colours.

At M&J Aboriginality, each piece of timber used in the making of our didgeridoos is selected to conform to traditional, age-old, Australian Aboriginal manufacturing methods.

All have been naturally hollowed in the field by wood eating termites which build their nests up the centre of the trees.

The didgeridoo is a traditional wind instrument of the Aboriginies of northern Australia. There are no reliable sources stating the didgeridoo's exact age, though it is commonly claimed to be the world's oldest wind instrument.

The didgeridoo is sometimes played as a solo instrument for recreational purposes, though more usually it accompanies dancing and singing in ceremonial rituals.

For Aboriginal groups of northern Australia, the didgeridoo is an integral part of ceremonial life, as it accompanies singers and dancers in religious rituals.

Boomerangs:

The Australian Aborigines have used boomerangs for many thousands of years.

The name "Boomerang" comes from the Indigenous Australian Turuwal tribe who lived south of Sydney in New South Wales, Australia.

There are a number of types of boomerangs used for a variety of purposes, but perhaps the most famous is the one that, when thrown in the correct manner, will return to the thrower.

At M&J Aboriginality, Matt will teach you how to throw a boomerang and make it come right back to you.

Aboriginal Art

Having no written language, the Australian Aborigines developed their own unique method of preserving and relaying information through their art.

Ancient examples of Aboriginal art can be found throughout Australia, usually in protected locations such as overhanging cliffs, or in caves.

This rich heritage of painting continues today, each artist retaining the style and story-telling skills of their ancestors.

For the visitor with a keen eye for art, we at M&J Aboriginality have an excellent selection of original, locally produced Aboriginal paintings on display from which to choose.
